As an ISAF Connect to Sailing Partner, Rockley International was invited to present talks at the Connect to Sailing Seminar on Sunday 7th November. The seminar, held to update on the progress of the Connect to Sailing Initiative and to encourage members to be more involved in growing youth sailing participation, heard from Rockley International’s Pip Woods and Richard Percy.

The presentations covered participation in sailing, the new ISAF Training Scholarship and the progress, over the last 12 months, of Rockley International’s projects to deliver training and assistance to countries to develop sailing within their own nations. The seminar was extremely well received and a inspirational presentation from South Africa’s National Training Manager and ISAF Training Scholarship graduate, Rob Holden, grabbed the attention of everyone with his enthusiasm and passion to bring sailing opportunities to everyone.

On attending the conference, Rockley Director, Lis Gordon commented: “It has been a hugely successful event for Rockley International. As Connect to Sailing partners and training provider of choice for the ISAF Training Scholarship, we are a company that is constantly working towards increasing participation and awareness of sailing.”

The ISAF conference was a great stepping stone for Rockley International who are now looking to the future with two ISAF Training Scholarship courses scheduled for spring and autumn 2011 and continued work with emerging nations to develop sail training and grassroots participation.

 Rockley International is attending fours days of the conference, represented by Peter and Lis Gordon, Pip Woods and Richard Percy. The conference is a great networking opportunity for everyone involved and a great stage for Rockley International to promote the assistance that can be offered to others in developing sail training programmes and increasing participation.
 
With each day being dedicated to different topics covered by ISAF, Sunday 7th November was scheduled as the ISAF Connect to Sailing Seminar. The Q&A session actively encouraged ISAF members to get more involved in growing Youth Sailing Participation, followed by presentations from several Connect to Sailing Partners.
 
As a Connect to Sail Partner, Rockley International MD, Richard Percy’s presentation covered the ISAF Training Scholarship Course and the development of work alongside ISAF during 2009 & 2010. Pip Woods, ISAF Trainer, presented the topic of growing participation in clubs and schools and opened the room to discussions of success stories and how the delegates can work together.

The second ISAF Training Scholarship course of 2010, run at Rockley Academy, has come to an end.

The three students this week will be completing the RYA Safety Boat course at the Rockley Academy centre at Rockley Point along with the final industry visit to RS and PSP.

Next week will see the participants complete the final section of the course, the ISAF Level 2 Senior Sailing instructor Trainers Course, otherwise known as- Train the Trainers, before heading home.

Taua was presented with his course completion certificate by Dan Jaspers, ISAF Training and Development Manager.

Taua is now on his way to the ISAF Emerging Nations Programme (ENP), being held at Freemantle Sailing Club, Perth.

Taua, along with 10 other sailing athletes from developing nations, will spend the 21 days at the ENP working on their sailing technique, fitness, racing and training in the next step towards achieving their Olympic dreams.

The next of the industry visits took the group to ISAF headquarters in Southampton, accompanied by Rockley’s rich Percy and ISAF’s Training and Development Manager, Dan Jaspers. The candidates were introduced to Jerome Pels, ISAF Secretary and given and introduction into how the ISAF governs sailing worldwide and the aims behind the course they are currently part of.

The day with ISAF was also an opportunity for the group to get an insight and training on the anti-doping programme and training resources from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)

Next Up… The candidates are nearing the finishing line of the course, but still have their Powerboat Instructor Training Course and a visit to Topper UK.
